Young Voices


Young Voices aims to increase the capacity of young people at risk to effectively engage with public policy and the issues that affect them.

To do this Young Voices:

  • Builds the capacity of organisation to practice youth participation
  • Develops mechanisms for organisations to consult young people and see the benefits of such engagement
  • Enhances the development of Include Youth's own public policy work
  • Builds the capacity of Young Voices participants to engage with public policy developments
  • Facilitates and supports the voice of young people to be heard at all levels of relevant policy and service development or delivery
  • Promotes and disseminates the model for engagement to agencies and others who wish to support yougn people having their voices heard.

Young Voices works with:

  • Young people in custody in Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre and Hydebank Young Offenders Centre
  • Young people in the community on policing and related issues
  • Young people in the community who have been involved in the criminal justice system or are at risk of becoming involved

Young Voices develops and builds relationships with young people.

The project also develops relationships and works in partnership with a range of agencies.

Young Voices engages and listens to young people. It works with yougn people, using a youth led, non judgmental approach. Respecting young people and their opinions is extremely important. It is also important to respect those that work with them.

Young Voices was independently evaluated by Rodney Green during 2009.
