Aims and Objectives: The aim of the Education Welfare Service is to ensure that all children of statutory school age in the SEELB have the benefit of mainstream access to educational opportunity through regular attendance at school or otherwise, and that parents fulfill their legal obligations regarding the education of their children. We aim also to provide support in the widest sense, for children of school age and their families, in order that children may maximise educational opportunities.
Programme Outline: The Education Welfare Service offers a wide range of services designed to fulfil statutory obligations and Board policy for special educational needs. We operate at four levels, working with individual pupils, parents, schools and other professionals. We work with pupils and their families and will develop community projects that aim to promote improved behaviour and attendance by providing support for pupils and their families. The pamphlet 'What Do I Do When ....' is available for parents, giving an outline of services available for children in schools seeking employment, or experiencing educational difficulties.
