Annual Conference 2009
‘Gis a job’ - Exploring the education, employment and training of excluded and marginalised children and young people
THURSDAY 22nd - FRIDAY 23rd OCTOBER 2009
Radisson Roe Hotel, Limavady
The education, employment and training experiences of socially disadvantaged and excluded children and young people will be the theme of Include Youth’s 30th anniversary conference. It has been consistently shown that young people who have had a poor educational experience, have reduced life chances and are over-represented in the criminal justice and looked after systems. As adults they are likely to be unemployed and experience persistent poverty. In turn “training and employment programmes” are often unable to address the needs of these young people.
The conference aims to help participants share experiences of good and promising practice from across NI, hear about research and learn about government strategies and developments across education, employment and learning, with a focus on identifying ways that they can support young people and their communities to endeavour to mitigate certain inequalities. Include Youth conferences have a reputation for facilitating stimulating discussion and provide an opportunity for practitioners, managers and policy makers working with disadvantaged children, young people and their families to network and share experiences.
