Fostering Achievement
The Fostering Achievement Scheme aims to support Foster Carers as first educators thereby improving the educational experiences of the children in their care. Include Youth has been involved, in a partnership led by the Fostering Network NI, in developing this scheme. The scheme provides credits for children aged 4 to 17 who have been in care for six months or more. Five Development Workers, one of whom is based with us, work throughout NI to support carers to make the best use of the funds available through the scheme.
Foster Carers apply to the scheme for equipment or personal development opportunities for the children in their care. Credits have been used to provide equipment such as computers and software to encourage children to develop computer skills and assist with school work, educational play equipment, musical instrument and sport equipment. Children and young people have also accessed tuition throught eh scheme in academic subjects and extra-curricular activities such as music, dance, horse riding etc.
The scheme also delivers workshops to Foster Carers on the education system, IT skills, how to help children with literacy and numeracy and advocacy and support.
